How to ask your council to reconsider a Blue Badge refusal

There is no tribunal for Blue Badge decisions. The official remedy is a reconsideration

request to your council — free, and worth doing properly. Source: GOV.UK guidance on

refused applications (checked 9 October 2026).

When reconsideration is the right move

GOV.UK puts it precisely: ask the council to reconsider **"if you do not think all the

important information you provided was taken into account."** That is the test — not

"I disagree". Frame your letter around information that was missed or misread.

The structure that works

1. Identification: your name, address, application or customer reference, and the date

of the refusal letter.

2. The ask, stated once: "I ask you to reconsider my Blue Badge application of [date]."

3. What was missed: two or three specific points — "the letter from Dr X of [date]

explaining I cannot stand for more than five minutes was enclosed but not referred to

in the decision."

4. The criteria, matched: if you qualify automatically (for example 8+ points

'moving around', or 10 under descriptor E), say so in the council's own terms.

5. Attachments, listed: every document you are adding, numbered.

6. Outcome sought: reconsider the existing application; or state you are reapplying

with this evidence if your council prefers that route.
